1914 (Tuesday)

Western Front  ▶  Battle of the Albert ends in repulse of the Germans.  ▶  Antwerp: Fort Wavre St. Catherine silenced.  ▶ The French lose Lassigny.
Eastern Front East Prussian Frontier: The Germans withdraw from Niemen and raise the siege of Osovyets.
Asiatic and Egyptian Theatres Japanese bombard Tsing-tau.
Naval and Overseas Operations SMS Emden: Second haul of captures announced (see 10 September).
Political  ▶  Great Britain: East Coast ports closed to foreign trawlers.  ▶  David Lloyd George, Chancellor of the Exchequer, delivers speech before a great meeting of the Welsh National Conference held at Cardiff.[1]
