Western Front  ▶  Battle of the Marne ended. Germans retreat on west and centre.  ▶ Pont-à-Mousson evacuated by Germans.
Eastern Front Poland: Dankl defeated in second Battle of Krasnik, Archduke Joseph defeated at Opole.
Southern Front Syrmia: Serbians occupy Semlin.
Naval and Overseas Operations  ▶  East Africa: Germans occupy Kisi.  ▶  The Emden makes first appearance in Bay of Bengal.[a]

1915 (Friday)

Western Front Steenstraate and Ramscapelle heavily shelled by the Germans.
Eastern Front  ▶  Enemy attacks north of Vilna, serious fighting in the centre.  ▶  Russian success continued in south Galicia.
Southern Front Greek officers are summoned to Athens.
Asiatic and Egyptian Theatres Disquieting news from Persia; gendarmerie disaffected and German intrigue is rife.
Naval and Overseas Operations Skirmish south of Songwe Rover (border of German East Africa).

Notes

  1. The Emden appears in the Bay of Bengal (after having been "lost" since the outbreak of war) and captures six British vessels – 5 sunk and the 6th sent to Calcutta with the crews.
