Great War events that took place on 29 December.

1914 (Tuesday)

Western Front  ▶  French beat off German attempts to recover St. Georges.  ▶  Success at Apremont (Argonne).
Eastern Front Galicia: Austrians in retreat; hard pressed by Russians.
Southern Front Albanians, incited by Austrians, attack Montenegrin posts and are repulsed.
Naval and Overseas Operations British squadron active on Belgian coast.
Political United States of America: Note presented to Great Britain concerning treatment of American commerce.[a]

Notes

  1. The USA protests against detention of ships and unwarrantable interference with US foreign trade; they object to British treatment of conditional contraband. Friendly, but rather sharply worded.
