Western Front  ▶  Battle of the Aisne begins (continued till 28 September).  ▶  Germans halt on the Aisne and north of Reims.  ▶  Heavy fighting round Missy and Vailly.
Eastern Front Poland: Russians force the passage of the San in pursuit of Dankl's beaten army.
Southern Front Bosnia: Vishegrad taken by Serbians and Montenegrins.
Naval and Overseas Operations  ▶  South Africa: Union forces surprise and defeat German's at Raman's Drift.  ▶  SMS Cap Trafalgar sunk by RMS Carmania (east coast of South America).
