Western Front First Battle of Ypres: Fierce German attacks repelled: heavy fighting round Klein Zillebeke.
Eastern Front Galicia: Line of the San once more in Russian hands: Austrians in retreat towards Cracow.
Asiatic and Egyptian Theatres Tsing-tau: Central fort stormed and 200 prisoners taken.
Political Great Britain: The German spy, Karl Hans Lody, is shot at dawn by firing squad at the Tower of London.
