Royal Marines

From The Great War 1914-1918

Royal Marines: An army regiment which costs the nation in peace time a sum of £802,000 a year. It supplies "soldiers and sailors too" to the ships of the Royal Navy. The divisions are based on Chatham, Portsmouth and Plymouth, and there is a depot at Deal. The Royal Marines are primarily a landing force, and they have done excellent service on land during many of our "little wars."[1]
