Foreign Legion: A term given to military bands raised in Great Britain from among foreigners resident in our midst. Among these may be mentioned the King's Foreign Legion, organised by Chevalier Luigi Ricci, and the Foreign Legion raised by Captain Webber. Foreign legions of this kind were used by Garibaldi in 1866, and during the Franco-Prussian War. [1]
