Western Front
- Germans capture Fort Manonviller (Avricourt).
- British on line Noyon-Chauny-La Fère: British cavalry successful near latter.
- Fall of Longwy.
Eastern Front
- Russians beat Austrians at Lützow (Galicia).
- East Prussia: Russians approach the Königsberg in the north: but in the south the Battle of Tannenberg continues against them.
- Battle of Bight of Heligoland: the German cruisers Mainz, Koln, and Ariadne sunk.[1]
