- Second Battle of Ypres: Germans pierce British line at Broodseinde: French recover Het Sas; British fail to recover St. Julien.
- British airmen bomb Courtrai and various neighbouring places.
- Dardanelles: Hill 141 stormed and V Beach secured.

- The last German raider overseas (armed merchant cruiser SS Kronprinz Wilhelm) interned at Newport News, USA (see 14 March).

- ↑ Lord Kitchener stated that Germany had stooped to acts which vie with those of the Dervishes. Mr. Asquith, in the Commons, stated that reparation would be exacted from all proved to have been guilty of such acts.
