Events preceding British Declaration of War
- Austria refuses Russian request for extension of time-limit.
- Germany thinks crisis could be localised, but inclined to fall in with idea of mediation.
- Serbia orders mobilisation; order signed by Crown Prince at 3 p.m.
- Russia conciliatory, but arranges for mobilisation of 13 corps on Russo-Austrian frontier if latter brings armed pressure to bear on Serbia.
- Serbian Government leaves for Nish. Hands in most conciliatory and almost humiliating answer 5.58 p.m.[1] Austrian Minister at Belgrade leaves for Vienna at 6.30 p.m. Serbian General Putnik (Chief of Staff) arrested near Budapest.
1915

- ↑ Reply to Austro-Hungarian Ultimatum delivered shortly before 6 p.m. by Premier, M. Pashich, to Austro-Hungarian mister. Serbian Government denies responsibility for articles in Press and emphasises peaceful work of Societies. Agrees to hand over all and sundry, regardless of rank and situation, proved guilty of complicity in Sarajevo tragedy. Will issue any order on the subject. Of the eleven chief points in Ultimatum, eight are accepted, one accepted subject to proof, one rejected conditionally, and one accepted conditionally. If the reply is deemed unsatisfactory, arbitration and mediation is proposed.
