To function

From The Great War On This Day

To function: To act as intended. To work satisfactorily. Applied variously, e.g., "That machine seems to be functioning at last." "The company were not up to much, but they seem to be functioning right now." "This cigarette won't function." (i.e. to draw on the cigarette.)[1]
