Template documentation

Usage

This is a basic template to allows for linking ships of the world using three parameters: Prefix, Name, and ID.

  • Prefix: This is the designation of the ship in an acronym. For example:
    • United Kingdom has the prefixes HMS (His Majesty's Ship), HMT (His Majesty's Trawler), RFA (Royal Fleet Auxilliary).
    • Germany has the prefixes SMS (Seiner Majestät Schiff – His Majesty's Ship), SMU (Seiner Majestät Unterseeboot – His Majesty's Submarine).
    • There are also prefixes such SS (Steamship), PS (Paddle steamer), SB (Sailing barge), MS (Motor ship), and RMS (Royal Mail Ship) amongst others.
  • Name: The name of the ship at launch. Note that some ships were interned and then repurposed with new names.
  • ID: Used primarily to identify which version a particular ship is. This can be the hull number, pennant number, or launch year. In many cases the latter is used the most.

Examples

Ultimately, the options are endless with the various ships prefixes and IDs.
