From The Great War On This Day

Mark: The silver monetary unit of the German Empire. It has an exchange value of (contemporary during the war) ll.7483d. (approx. ll¾d.), and is divided in one hundred parts called pfennige. German gold coins of 10 and 20 marks were minted. [1]
