Catsood

From The Great War On This Day

Catsood: Drunk. A corruption of the French Quatre Sous. "Catsoos" was the usual soldiers' name for a drink at an estaminet, the price being four sous in the earlier days of the war. The price was raised later but the term remained without regard to price. [1]
