1915 (Wednesday)
- Indecisive fighting near St. Mihiel.
- Further Russian advance in Carpathians.
- Skirmish between Turks and British north-east of El Ḱantara (Egypt).
- First Indian units of Indian Expeditionary Force "G" (formed from Force "E") sail from Egypt for the Dardanelles (see 31 December).
- German Minority Socialists publish a manifesto against the war.
- Appeal by the Churches for restraint in use of alcohol is followed by a memorial by business men to the same effect.
1916 (Friday)
- The "Grand Fleet" ceases to exist when Lord Beatty hauls down his flag on the HMS Queen Elizabeth.[1]
