Charlie Noble

From The Great War 1914-1918

Charlie Noble: An old Navy name for the galley stove funnel. Charlie Noble is said to have been a Commander in the Mediterranean Fleet about 1840, one of whose fads was keeping the copper cowl of the gallery funnel extra bright and shiny. [1]
